Many search engines base their rankings of your site on the "popularity" of the site. Popularity is determined by the number of other sites that have links to yours. One of the primary way you increase the links to your site is through related sites willing to publish a link. For exampl if you purchase advertising with a particular magazine or radio station you should certainly request that they add a link to their site for your benefit.

Another component of building site popularity is through directories - both paid and free. Below are some suggestions of the various directories where you migh want to get your site listed to increase your popularity.

FREE DIRECTORIES:

DMOZ is an open directory project with volunteer editors. To get listed in this directory you should first try to search your URL to be sure you are not listed. If not find the best category to list your site and click on "Suggest a URL" at the top of the page. Read and follow the directions carefully to ensure a good result.

PAID DIRECTORIES:

www.unlimitedtraffic.net

This site offers many services, but one of them is to inlclude your site in multiple directories for a fee. Check the site carefully because there are multiple options.

OTHER:

www.directorylist.org

This site provides categorical lists of free, reciprical and paid directories.
